CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS

(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums 

USES:  This medication is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas casued by stomach acid.  

HOW TO USE:  Take that by mouth as directed.  Chew thoroughly and swallow.  <br/><br/>Do not swallow the tablets whole.  <br/><br/>Fololw each dose with a full glass of water. <br/>Do not increase the dose or take that more often than prescribed.   If you believe your dose is not effective, cnosult your doctor. 

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medication is generally well tolerated.  Constipation or stomach cramps may occur.  Notify your doctor if they continue or becmoe severe.  Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache.  If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. 

PRECAUTIONS:  Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, any allergeis.  <br/>Avoid taking more doses than recommended. This medicatoin is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.  <br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapmail (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products.  Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist aprpoval.  <br/>

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately.  Smyptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness.  

NOTES:  There are various forms of that medicatoin available.  The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting.   Talk to your heatlh care provider or pharmacist about the hottest product for you. <br/><br/>If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist. <br/><br/>If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding 

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.  <br/>Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. <br/><br/>

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. <br/>Do not stroe in the bathroom.]]></description>
